What is Stump Grinding?
Definition: Removing unwanted stumps.
Stump Grinders are utilised to remove stumps in situations where minimum ground disturbance is required. Our machines have cutting wheels fitted with tungsten carbide teeth. Revolving at high speed the stump, roots and adjacent soil is cut into small particles. The smaller of the machines will go through most doorways, needing a minimum of 29.5 inches, is self propelled and will climb steep banks and steps. Our large stump grinder, weighing one tonne, is four-wheel drive with diff-lock, auto-sweep and a bull dozer blade. Although this machine is heavy duty, it will access a 34 inch gate and has low ground pressure tyres which do not mark soft lawns. Our machines are capable of grinding to a depth of 1 metre below ground level; this may leave some of the root system in place however these will eventually rot away.
There are many reasons why a stump may need to be remov ed, for example;
- When a new building is to be constructed
- A new fence is to be erected
- To remove trip hazards in public places for Health & Safety
- To allow for replacement planting
- When you keep damaging your lawn mower!
The bi product from stump grinding is a mixture of soil, wood mulch and small stone. We can remove this debris for you, but find the majority of customers distribute the risings around the garden as a more economical option and a garden mulch. If the stump was diseased and threatens the health of other plants or future planting, we would advise that all risings are removed and replaced with top soil.
